Gingerbread Syrup

Introduction

Used for mixing drinks (champagne or white wine) or can be drizzled over freshly baked Gingerbread or vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups water
  • 1½ cups granulated sugar
  • 2½ teaspoons ground ginger (or fresh ginger)
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Method

Gingerbread Syrup is a community recipe submitted by Shyvas and has not been tested by Nigella.com so we are not able to answer questions regarding this recipe.

  • Combine the ingredients in a saucepan - boil.
  • Reduce the heat and simmer for approx. 15 mins.
  • Cover the saucepan and leave to cool.
  • Makes 7 drinks. You could add some fresh ginger root and use less ground ginger.

    Drizzle the syrup over freshly baked Gingerbread.

    • The above measurements are American: so for those who are from the UK who don't use cups apart from porcelain for coffee or tea; here are the UK measures: 475 mls of water 240 grams of granulated sugar 15 grams ground ginger 5 grams ground cinnamon 5 mls vanilla extract. Just to add american teaspoons are slightly more than UK measurements, roughly 5 grams each teaspoon (US), but then you might like the extra ginger etc...
