Butterscotch Morsels

Asked by aml67. Answered on 19th October 2014

Full question

The Banana Butterscotch Muffins are delicious using chocolate chips and I would like to try it with butterscotch morsels. I can find butterscotch sauce recipe but nothing for butterscotch that I could use in your muffin recipe. Do you have a recipe for something suitable? Thanks Anne-Maree

Our answer

Nigella's Banana Butterscotch Muffins (from Nigella Express and on the Nigella website) uses an ingredient called butterscotch morsels. These are small butterscotch chips and in the past Nigella has used the Nestle Toll House morsels. Hershey's also make a similar butterscotch morsel. Both of these can be bought on-line in the UK.

Unfortunately we don't have a recipe for making the chips. However some UK supermarkets have started selling their own butterscotch chips in their baking sections and you could try these. Some also sell fudge chips or small chunks which may be a nice alternative. We suggest looking in Waitrose, Sainsbury's or Asda.
