Hi, I really want to try the Chicken In A Pot With Lemon And Orzo but wondering can it be done in a slow-cooker? And if so what would need to be altered? Thanks.
Our answer
Nigella's Chicken In A Pot With Lemon And Orzo (from COOK, EAT, REPEAT) is a one-pan dish that requires very little hands-on time. The chicken cooks in the oven, creating a flavoursome stock that is then soaked up by the orzo.
We suspect that it is possible to cook the dish in a slow-cooker, as long as it is big enough to hold the chicken, vegetables and cooked orzo (the orzo will swell to around twice its original size). All slow-cooker models vary, so we would suggest consulting your handbook for the recommended time and temperature for cooking the chicken. You can put the chicken straight into the slow-cooker but it may look a little pallid after cooking so if you want a more golden skin then you could brown the chicken in a frying pan before transferring it to the slow-cooker pot. Once the chicken has cooked through, turn the setting to high (if it is not already on high) before adding the orzo. Cover and cook until the orzo is soft, this should take about 30 minutes but can take a little longer.
