Full question
Could you make the Garlicky Roast Potatoes in an air fryer?
Our answer
Nigella's Garlicky Roast Potatoes With Oregano And Feta (from AT MY TABLE) roasts cubes of potato in a hot oven with garlic and dried oregano and sprinkles them with feta and fresh oregano after cooking. An air fryer is essentially a compact convection oven, where an electric element creates heat and a powerful fan circulates the heat around the air fryer basket (or shelves, if it is an air fryer oven).
We suspect that it is possible to cook the potatoes in an air fryer, but you may need to reduce the quantities as the cubes of potato should sit in a single layer in the air fryer basket for the best results. If you cram too many cubes of potato in the basket then you may end up with a combination of roast and steamed potatoes. So we suggest working out roughly how much potato you need to give a single layer in the basket and reduce all quantities of other ingredients in the same proportion, or cook the potato cubes in batches and keep the cooked potatoes warm in a low oven as you cook the other batches. If you have an air fryer oven then you may be able to cook more potatoes as they usually have 2-3 shelves. Toss the potato cubes in the oil, dried oregano and garlic. Set the fryer to 200c (the fan oven setting) and preheat for 5 minutes, if possible. The potatoes are likely to cook much more quickly in the air fryer and our guess is that they will take about 20-30 minutes to cook to a crisp exterior and soft interior. It will vary according to the model used. We would suggest cooking for an initial 10-15 minutes and then checking the potatoes. After that check every 5 minutes until they are done. if you are using an air fryer oven cook for 10 minutes, rotate the shelves and cook for a further 5-10 minutes then rotate the shelves again and cook another 5-10 minutes. Continue like this until the potatoes are golden and crispy. Once the potates are cooked, transfer to the serving dish and add the feta and fresh oregano as described in the recipe. However, as we have not cooked the potatoes ourselves in an air fryer, we are unable to guarantee the results.
