Our answer

Nigella's Creme Caramel For One is an indulgent solo treat, though it is easy to double the recipe for two. Whilst often creme caramel is made with milk and cream, Nigella's version is made with only full-fat (whole) milk, which makes the custard less rich but light and elegant.

It should be possible to make the creme caramel with plant-based milks, though you would want to avoid lower fat milks as these will taste too "lean". Whole milk has a fat content of 3.6-3.8% (3.6-3.8g fat per 100mls), so you should look for a milk alternative with a fat content as close to that as possible, or one with a rich taste. Also you should choose an unsweetened milk otherwise the creme caramel could become too sweet. We would avoid using coconut milk as it has a high fat content and a strong flavour, both of which will affect the flavour of the creme caramel. However, please note that as we have not tried the recipe ourselves with alternative milks, we are unable to guarantee the results.
