Our answer

Nigella's Fig And Olive Chutney (from NIGELLISSIMA) is a condiment that goes well with cheese and cold meats. It is very quick and easy to make, partly as it uses dried rather than fresh fruit, which helps to reduce the cooking time.

In theory it would be possible to use fresh figs. However, this would require several changes to the recipe, including increasing the amount of figs, reducing the amount of water and changing the cooking time. Consequently, we can't recommend just a straight swap of dried figs for fresh. However, if you have a glut of fresh figs you could try either the aromatic Figs For A Thousand And One Nights or the delicate Red-Leaf Fig And Serrano Ham Salad.
