Full question
Hi, is it possible to make a meat-free meatzza and if so should I use Quorn or a roasted vegetable mix?
Our answer
Nigella's Meatzza (from NIGELLISSIMA) has a base made from a meatball mixture of minced (ground) beef, breadcumbs bound with egg and topped like a pizza with tomato sauce and mozzarella.
We have not tried a meat-free version, but as there are many plant-based alternatives to minced beef now available in the UK and US, we suspect that it would be best to use one of these as they have been adapted to cook in the same way as minced beef. Using just ground Quorn could mean the base is a little dry and we suspect that a base of roasted vegetables would not hold together quite as well. When buying the plant-based mince, try to look for one with a fat content of around 10% (you should be able to see this from the nutritional information panel on the packaging), as anything with a lower fat content could mean the base is a little dry and crumbly. For a quick alternative to standard pizza, you could also try Nigella's Naan Pizza
