Asked by Rads1205. Answered on 23rd March 2022

Full question

Hi, I have a dinner party coming up soon for 6 people. Would the Fish Finger Bhorta be suitable as a starter? If so, how many would the recipe serve? Thank you

Our answer

Nigella's Fish Finger Bhorta (from COOK, EAT, REPEAT) is her version of the spicy Bangladeshi dish. Fish fingers give a nice textural contrast of crisp crust and soft fish. It could be eaten as a supper, lunch, snack or even breakfast so you could serve it as a starter (appetizer) course, but remember that the bhorta is spicy and vibrant so any main course should be robust enough to follow on.

The recipe serves 2 people as a supper dish. Portion sizes depend very much of the appetite of the eater, and for a dinner party the courses that are to follow, but we think that this recipe would be enough for at least 4 people as a starter. However, we would suggest making a double quantity of the bhorta to make sure that you have enough to serve all of your guests and any leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and eaten cold or reheated in a microwave.
