Full question
What is the US equivalent of the savoiardi cookies Nigella mentions using? Also is 400g/14 ounces the correct amount as it sounds a lot.
Our answer
Nigella's Irish Cream Tiramisu (from NIGELLA EXPRESS) is a tiramisu flavoured with Bailey's liqueur (also known as Irish cream liqueur). The flavoured mascarpone cream is layered with savoiardi cookies. These cookies are light, dry sponge "finger" cookies and in the US they are sometimes called ladyfingers and occasionally in the UK they are called boudoir biscuits. The cookies absorb a fair amount of liquid and become soft very quickly, so dip them briefly in cooled coffee mixture and put them into the dish straightaway.
The amount of cookies used may vary according to the dimensions of the dish and you may not need the full 400g/14 ounces. However in our experience they are usually sold in 200g/7-ounce packages and one package is not enough, so the amount party reflects the likely number of packages you will need. Leftover cookies will usually keep in an airtight container for a week or two and can be eaten dunked in your morning coffee or used for Tiramisini.
