Pan Size For Yogurt Pot Cake

Asked by Ton90. Answered on 25th October 2017

Full question

Hi Team Nigella, I’ve recently purchased a ciambella pan in anticipation for making the Yogurt Pot Cake from Nigellissima. However, my cake pan measures 9.5 inches. Will this hugely affect the cake making and baking? As I know in round cake pans even half an inch can make a difference to levaning agents and other components. Thank you so much!

Our answer

Nigella's Yogurt Pot Cake (from NIGELLISSIMA) is baked in a round savarin ring tin. This is a smooth, round tin with a hole in the centre. It is different from a bundt pan as it is quite a bit shallower and doesn't have the decorative markings of a bundt pan.

We baked the Yogurt Pot Cake in a tin which has a diameter of 9 7/8 inches (22 cm) when measuring from the inside edge to inside edge of the pan. The centre hole has a diameter of 3 7/8 inches (9.5cm) and approximately 1 3/4 inches (4cm) deep. If your tin has a diameter of 9 1/2 inches and a similar depth then it is likely that the quantities in the recipe will not need any adjustment, as the difference in pan size is not that great when you allow for the hole in the middle. However the baking time may be slightly shorter so you may like to check the cake 2-3 minutes before the end of the baking time.
