Rosewater

Asked by mikehonour. Answered on 20th May 2011

Full question

Hello! I've been having some trouble finding where to buy rosewater from. Really fancy trying my hand (and my tummy) at some Turkish Delight cupcakes. Any ideas? Thank you!

Our answer

Rosewater is distilled from rose petals (it is a by-product of rose oil manufacturing) and is popular in Middle Eastern, South Mediterranean and some Indian cooking. It is difficult to make a cooking grade rosewater ay home but in the UK some of the larger supermarkets stock it in their baking aisles and Ocado list it on their home delivery service (though availability may vary by region). It is also worth trying Middle eastern stores if you have any close by or it is available on the internet (see links below).

In the US rosewater (usually spelt as rose water) may be found in some Whole Foods stores, gourmet grocery stores, Middle Eastern or Indian grocery stores, or baking suppliers. It is also available on-line (see link below).
