Can I use turkey instead of lamb for the Slow-Cooker Lamb And Pasta recipe? How would the seasonings change? Thank you.
Our answer
Nigella's Slow-Cooker Lamb And Pasta is an easy one pot dish in which the minced (ground) lamb is slowly cooked to a rich sauce and the pasta is added towards the end of the cooking time so that it absorbs lots of flavour as it cooks in this sauce. It is possible to switch the lamb to turkey but we would suggest that you use a minced turkey that is a combination of thigh and breast meat as, in our opinion, this gives a better flavour than just turkey breast.
The sauce is flavoured with Wocestershire sauce, redcurrant jelly and dried mint. These flavours would also work with turkey, though mint is usually associated with lamb. So if you prefer you could switch the dried mint for another herb, such as dried thyme or oregano. If using one of these as an alternative then we would also suggest reducing the quantity to 1/2 to 3/4 teaspoon, as they are stronger in flavour and their volume measures are slightly different to the mint.
