Full question
For the Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe it says that “The cookies can be made up to 3 days ahead and stored in an airtight container. Will keep for a total of 5 days.” Am I the only one baffled by this?
Our answer
Nigella's Chocolate Chip Cookies (from KITCHEN) are chunky cookies that have a crisp exterior and a soft centre. The cookies can be stored in an airtight container and can also be frozen.
The cookies are at their best if eaten within 3 days of making. The crust of the cookies will soften slightly over time, so the cookies start to lose the contrast of crisp and soft. So if you want to make the cookies ahead for a special occasion we would suggest making them no more than 3 days ahead. However, we did not want to give the impression that the cookies will only keep for 3 days so have indicated that they will keep for 5 days in total. The cookies freeze well in both baked and unbaked form, so you can always freeze the cookies as an alternative storage solution.
