I would like to know how far in advance the Strawberry Meringue Layer Cake can be made?

Nigella's Strawberry Meringue Layer Cake from NIGELLA SUMMER has thin layers of sponge that are topped with meringue and then sandwiched with strawberries and cream. The cake layers can be made a day in advance, but we suggest assembling the cake just before serving.
Store the baked cake layers in airtight containers in a cool, dry place. The meringue may soften slightly and the longer it stands, the softer the meringue will become. Also, if it is a humid or wet day then the meringue will soften more quickly. We would prefer not to freeze the cake layers, as you can't wrap the layers tightly enough to protect them in the freezer without crushing the meringue. Leftovers of the filled cake should be stored in the fridge and eaten within 24 hours.
