Full question
In the Sweetcorn Pudding recipe it asks for a 510g tin sweetcorn, drained. Is 510g a net weight of the tin or the drained weight? I can’t find 510g tins of sweetcorn.
Our answer
Nigella's Sweetcorn Pudding recipe (from NIGELLA BITES) is her version of an American dish. The book was released in 2001 and at that time there was a different variety of can sizes available. The weight given is the undrained weight of the can and not the drained weight of the kernels.
In the UK and Europe the 198g can size is most common. You therefore need to use 2½ cans of this size. In terms of drained weight it is approximately 350g of drained, canned kernels. For the US a 15-ounce can size is quite common and you need a little over one can, or approximately 2¼ cups of drained kernels.
