Our answer

Nigella's Italian Christmas Pudding Cake (from NIGELLISSIMA) is a lighter alternative to a traditional Christmas Pudding. It is made with layers of liqueur soaked panettone that are sandwiched with a chocolate and nut studded mascarpone. Tuaca is a brandy based liqueur that originated in Tuscany and Nigella uses it for its vanilla and citrus flavours.

The liqueur can be found in some specialist liquor stores (if you are in London then try Gerry's Wines and Spirits in Soho) and from on-line retailers. However if you can't find it then you can use rum, brandy or Grand Marnier as alternatives, or even extra marsala. For an alcohol-free alternative you can use orange juice to drizzle over the panettone slices and 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract plus 6 tablespoons of milk instead of the marsala. Add a little extra milk if the mascarpone mixture is too stiff to spread easily.
