Full question
In one of Nigella's recipes, she used a liquor that tasted like Pandoro cake. What is it? Thanks.
Our answer
Nigella's Italian Christmas Pudding Cake is a tiramisu-style dessert that is made with layers of panettone or pandoro plus chocolate and marron glace-studded mascarpone cream. The panettone or pandoro pieces are drizzled with Tuaca liqueur as they are layered in the pudding cake.
We suspect that the liqueur referred to is Tuaca. It is a brandy-based liqueur that is flavoured with vanilla and citrus. These flavours give the liqueur a Christmassy feeling and they particularly reflect the flavours of panettone, which is a sweet enriched bread that is studded with dried fruits and candied citrus peel. Pandoro is similar to panettone, though comes from a different region of Italy and does not contain fruits.
