This was my first attempt at a proper dessert since my son's birth a few weeks ago. The few minutes it took to bake and frost the cake were a welcome respite from the demands of new motherhood. My partner snapped this photo while the baby slept on me. We ate our first delicious bites in silence, careful not to disturb the sleeping baby with the clang of fork on plate.
