Because there are only the two of us, I cut the recipe in half to make just one layer. I ordered Horlicks and used it as specified, but I made a modification to the candy decoration, using dark chocolate coated espresso beans. They provided a sharper taste to contrast with the more mellow taste of the malt-flavored icing. I thought the icing was quite delicious.
