
I love baking cakes and decorating them. I always make birthday cakes for my childeren and my nieces and nephew. Other people are an exeption. This cake was for my best friend. She turned 40 and she got a surprise party and a surprise birthday cake. I used the recipe by Nigella. But I used white chocolate icing and a ruby chocolate drip because all the other items would stand out better. I made shoebun cream puffs with a straciatella filling, dark chocolates with a oreo and chocolate mouse filling, chocolate balls (that I painted gold) with a prosecco and strawberry filling and tiny meringues with streaks of gold. I also used a swiss merignue buttercream to pipe on some rosets and I put the bottle in de cake upside down. I had loads of fun decorating this cake. As a final touch I piped out my friends name and birthday with dark chocolate and made some extra swirls with the leftover chocolate.
