I am not a dog person, not in the slightest, although I do have a fantasy life in which I have a dog, and in an idle moment I can often be found researching dog breeds and imagining a life with various unsuitable animals. Actually, none of the animals could really be said to be unsuitable; I admit I am an unsuitable owner. So this week’s choice on Cookbook Corner is for those loving dog owners among you. Wittily written by Debora Robertson and beautifully illustrated by Cinzia Zenocchini, it’s charming without being cutesy, and I already know I will be buying several come Christmastime (sorry to mention it now) as presents. And actually, I want to eat most of the recipes in it myself. This Sardine and Sweet Potato Bake is a case in point. Though, I wouldn’t turn down the Braised Beef Cheeks or Chicken and Fennel Au Gratin either: this is not just canine cuisine.
