Grapefruit Margarita
by Nigella. Featured in AT MY TABLEIntroduction
One quick gulp of a cold, sharp margarita and I feel I'm on holiday. This is not the classic version, but I have come enthusiastically to prefer it.
And you can make pitchers of this heavenly elixir, forgoing the shaker but following the same proportions, to be poured into frosted glasses tumbled with ice. To serve 6, you will need 300ml / 1¼ cups tequila, 300ml / 1¼ cups Triple Sec, 600ml / 2½ cups grapefruit juice, and lime juice to taste.

Ingredients
Makes: 1 cocktail
- 50 millilitres tequila
- 50 millilitres Triple Sec or Cointreau or other orange liqueur
- 100 millilitres fresh grapefruit juice (plus extra for dipping the glass rim)
- fresh lime juice (to taste)
- Maldon sea salt flakes
- 1 shot tequila
- 1 shot Triple Sec or Cointreau or other orange liqueur
- 2 shots fresh grapefruit juice (plus extra for dipping the glass rim)
- fresh lime juice (to taste)
- kosher salt
Method
- Squeeze a grapefruit and dip the rim of a glass into the juice (I like a tumbler, though by all means use a traditional margarita glass) and then in some lightly crushed — just with your fingers — sea salt flakes.
- In a cocktail shaker generously stacked with ice cubes, shake together the tequila, Triple Sec (or other orange liqueur) and grapefruit juice and strain into your salt-rimmed glass, adding fresh ice cubes if you like.
- Spritz with lime juice to taste, for added sharpness, if wished.
