Easy Aromatic Meatballs

Introduction

These are baked allowing some of the fat to drain away and also giving you time to prepare the pasta and sauce while they are baking.

Ingredients

Serves: For 4 servings

  • ½ cup wholemeal dried breadcrumbs ()
  • 1 small finely diced onion ()
  • 2 cloves diced garlic
  • 18 ounces ground beef (or lamb or pork)
  • 1 medium egg
  • 1 teaspoon ground fennel seeds
  • ½ teaspoon fresh basil
  • ½ teaspoon oregano
  • ½ teaspoon thyme
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Method

  • Turn oven to 220 C
  • Mix all the ingredients in a bowl, I do it with my hands
  • Roll into balls with wet hands. If you can, place meatballs in a single layer on a grid on top of a baking tray so they can drain
  • Bake for 12 - 15 minutes or until halved meatball is no longer pink in the middle
  • While meatballs bake you can cook your pasta and prepare your sauce. Bellissimo!
