Melt the butter, let the chopped onion simmer in the butter and soften for a while before adding the tomatoes and the sugar and some salt Cover, and leave to simmer GENTLY for 2 hours Check it every now and then. I use a small saucepan for this, not a frying pan with a large base Serve with pasta (I use whatever I happen to have at home) Makes enough for about three people. Multiply recipe for larger gatherings... Enjoy!

Introduction
This is the easiest and most delicious tomato sauce ever. I got it from a magazine years ago, and it has been a favourite ever since. You MUST use butter for this - don't even contemplate substituting olive oil!

Fabulous sauce, we loved it! First used on gnocchi. Made a double quantity so plenty for 4 servings
