Ingredients

Serves: -

Metric Cups
  • 2000 millilitres milk
  • 6 eggs
  • 375 millilitres caster sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla Good quality
  • 340 grams fine egg noodles
  • 1 lemon peel (just cut a large slice without pith)
  • 70⅕ fluid ounces milk
  • 6 eggs
  • 13⅙ fluid ounces superfine sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla Good quality
  • 12 ounces fine egg noodles
  • 1 lemon peel (just cut a large slice without pith)

Method

Aletri (Portugese Sweet Vermicelli, Aka: Port Kugel) is a community recipe submitted by catarina m and has not been tested by Nigella.com so we are not able to answer questions regarding this recipe.

  • Pour milk into a large pan. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly(put lemon peel in) Add 1/2 cup of sugar and salt to the milk.
  • Beat the eggs then add the rest of the sugar and all the vanilla to the egg mixture, in a separate bowl. Slowly blend some heated milk into the eggs to make them thin enough to pour easily. Break the noodles up and add them to the boiling milk. Stir constantly until the noodles are cooked.
  • Remove from heat. Slowly add egg mixture into the cooked noodle mixture. Pour onto platters to cool (fish out the lemon peel, of course!)
  • Sprinkle with cinnamon(if desired)
  • Enjoy!! (great side dish with meat or on it's own)
