My favourite chocolate loaf cake, I grew up eating this. It's lovely with tea or coffe, or just a glass of cold milk. If you want to make the slices more decadent, place slices on a plate, put some whipped cream on each and top with some berries/fruit or jam.

Ingredients

Serves: 6

Metric Cups
  • 4 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 150 millilitres full fat milk
  • 150 millilitres sugar
  • 110 grams butter
  • 2 medium eggs
  • 300 millilitres plain flour
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 4 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa
  • 5 fluid ounces whole milk
  • 5 fluid ounces sugar
  • 3⅞ ounces butter
  • 2 medium eggs
  • 11 fluid ounces all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1½ teaspoons baking powder

You will need a loaf tin, approx. 23 x 13 cm, buttered and floured or with a paper insert.

  • Mix cocoa, milk and half of the sugar in a pan, bring to boil, leave to cool a bit.
  • Whisk butter and the rest of the sugar until it turns pale, add the eggs and vanilla and whisk again.
  • Pour in the chocolate mixture and stir.
  • Mix flour and baking powder, sieve it over the bowl and stir again.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared tin, and bake for about 45 minutes (or until cake tester comes out clean) in a 170C/350F oven.
