Preheat oven to 180c. Grease & line a slice tin with baking paper. Cream butter & confectioners' sugar then mix in sifted flours. Press half of the mix into the tin. Beat the cream cheese, sugar & lemon juice until creamy. Spread this over the base then spread over the grated apple & crumble the remaining base mix on top. Cook for about 30mins.
Introduction
This is one that I used to make in the Cafe. Easy to make & scrummy too.

Pretty sure this is the same as the Australian womans weekly cake cookbook, and is just delicious. I had two restaurants and a catering business and made it weekly. Tip, used to roll into a ball, the base mix being used for the topping , when firm grate it on as well as grating the apple.
This seems similar to a slice I used to make back in the 70's, but I had a base, then stewed apple & then the cream cheese on top. Would this work with this recipe, but leave the crumble off? I lost my recipe many years ago, so any advise would be welcomed.
