Introduction

buttery oaten squares

Ingredients

Serves: 6-8

  • 2 cups quick-cooking oats
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup unsweetened shredded coconut
  • 1 cup sugar (golden or brown sugar)
  • 8 ounces butter
  • 1 tablespoon golden syrup or light corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

Method

My Mom's Crunchies is a community recipe submitted by renee and has not been tested by Nigella.com so we are not able to answer questions regarding this recipe.

  • Mix the first 4 ingredients in a large mixing bowl.
  • Melt the butter and syrup. When melted, add and stir in the bicarb until the mixture froths.
  • Mix well into dry ingredients.
  • Put into greased pan (I use my oven pan - about 50 cm x 30 cm). Pat mixture down gently with a wet hand.
  • Bake at 160 C (325F) for 20 minutes till golden. I sometimes add sultanas or raisins.
