Ingredients

Serves: 4

Metric Cups
  • 500 grams minced beef
  • 1 large onion
  • 2 red peppers
  • 1 can kidney beans
  • 2 cans chopped tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • red chillies (to taste)
  • 5 dark chocolate (squares)
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 pinch of pepper
  • 18 ounces ground beef
  • 1 large onion
  • 2 red bell peppers
  • 1 can kidney beans
  • 2 cans diced tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • red chiles (to taste)
  • 5 bittersweet chocolate (squares)
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 pinch of pepper

Method

  • Fry the onions until transparent. Add meat and brown in skillet. Deseed and chop the red peppers, add to pan. When red peppers have softened add kidney beans, tomatoes and paste. Add chillies.
  • Simmer on a low temper for half an hour. Add chocolate towards the end of cooking time on the stove. Then place in oven at 200 degrees for an hour until flavours have infused.

  • Additional Information

    This is great with rice or baked potatoes. I never tell anyone there is chocolate in the dish until after they have eaten it and everyone is always surprised. I suggest you taste a little before you add the chocolate and you can taste the difference. Also if you add too much chilli the chocolate helps tone it down. Enjoy.

    • Instead of chopped tomatoes add a tin of condensed tomato soup for a richer chilli
