Our answer

Nigella's recipe for Slut's Spaghetti (from NIGELLA KITCHEN) is a quick and easy dish made with store cupboard ingredients. It is also traditionally known as "pasta alla puttanesca" and is made with either canned or jarred anchovies - the type that have been salt cured and then stored in oil.

Fresh anchovies are usually sold either whole, to be fried, or are marinated in vinegar with herbs and spices to serve as antipasti. We would avoid using either of these for the spaghetti sauce as they don't have quite the same salty punch as the canned anchovies and would not flavour the sauce in the same way.
