Baking Time For Chocolate Chip Cookies

Asked by Shrey-berry. Answered on 25th June 2016

Full question

I made the cookies but they were still so fudgy after 15 minutes of baking, I can't judge when's the right time to take it out of the oven.

Our answer

Nigella's Chocolate Chip Cookies (from KITCHEN) are generous-sized cookies that are slightly crisp on the outside, but soft and crumbly on the inside. The baking time for the cookies is 15-17 minutes, even though they are quite large. The cookies should not spread too much during baking and will be rounded, not flat.

The cookies are baked once they start to turn a little brown and toasty around the edges. The top surface of the cookies may be slightly wrinkled but will not be too coloured. The cookies will still look soft when they come out of the oven but this is important as this means they will have soft interiors. If you bake the cookies for too long they will become hard. The cookies will become firmer as they cool, so if possible cool them on the baking sheet. If you are worried about moving the cookies while they are cooling then let the cookies cool for 5 minutes on the baking sheet and then carefully slide the sheet of parchment, with the cookies still on it, onto a wire cooling rack.

  • Hi Nigella! I found that Reynold's Non-Stick foil paper is an excellent resource when baking chocolate chip cookies. The cookies simply slide right off the pan with a spatula and you can re-use the non stick foil for the "next batch." This is so perfect because the pan stays absolutely clean and the cookies are absolutely perfect and YUMMY!!
