Base For Naan Pizza

Asked by Racheliscooking. Answered on 30th November 2016

Full question

The Naan Pizzas just look so nice. I cannot buy naan bread so wonder if you have recipe to make naan or would this work with your flat bread cut in half?

Our answer

Nigella's Naan Pizza (from NIGELLA EXPRESS) is a speedy supper or snack using store-bought naan breads. Naan breads are thick, soft and slightly chewy and when they are heated in the oven they retain their soft texture. Pita breads and some flatbreads are not necessarily a good alternative as they become crisp and brittle in a hot oven.

The Nigellan Flatbreads are delicious but are baked so they are rather like a pita bread and may be not quite the correct texture for the pizza. However you could use the dough from this recipe and cook each bread in a hot, dry frying pan, as you would for a naan bread, to give a suitable base. Another alternative would be to use focaccia bread for the base, which would retain some of its softness during baking and has a good flavour.
