Full question
Can the Red Cabbage with Cranberries recipe be made in a slow cooker and if so how long should I cook it for? Merry Christmas!
Our answer
NIgella's Red Cabbage With Cranberries (from AT MY TABLE) has red cabbage that is braised on the top of the stove. It is a useful recipe for a seasonal entertaining as the cabbage can be cooked in advance and then reheated.
You should be able to cook the red cabbage in a slow cooker and it should take 2-3 hours on a high setting. It will take 4-5 hours on a low setting but we would suggest cooking on high for the first 30 minutes so that the liquid comes up to a simmer, particularly if you are using frozen cranberries. The cooking time will depend slightly on they type of slow cooker you have and also how thinly the cabbage is sliced, but cook until the cabbage is tender and the fresh or frozen cranberries have popped and are breaking down slightly.
