Full question
How can I prepare the Snowball in Heaven cocktail for a group of 15? Is it OK to stir instead of shake? Thanks.
Our answer
Nigella's Snowball In Heaven is a cocktail made using the brandy and egg-based liqueur advocaat, which is usually popular at Christmas. Nigella's version is enhanced with the addition of vodka.
It would be possible to make a larger amount in a jug. As advocaat is quite viscous, shaking is preferable as it helps to ensure that the vodka and advocaat are completely mixed. We would suggest putting appropriate quantites of each alcohol in a large, chilled jug and stirring them together thoroughly. Then fill the jug with as much ice as possible and stir until the outside of the jug looks frosty, or the alcohol mixture is nice and cold. It may be easier to strain the alcohols into a second chilled jug before pouring into cocktail glasses, to prevent ice cubes dropping into the glasses at the same time. Top up with lemonade and, if liked, add a spritz of lemon or lime juice and a maraschino cherry. You may also want to consider Nigella's Christmas Cup, Negroni Sbagliato and Poinsetta, as they are all jug versions of coctails and excellent for a crowd.
