Full question
Can I use non-alcoholic gin for the Gin and Tonic Jelly in the recipe? Are there any non-alcoholic gins that you can recommend? Thank you.
Our answer
Nigella's Gin And Tonic Jelly (from HOW TO BE A DOMESTIC GODDESS) is a grown-up drink-made-dessert. It is also a useful dessert for entertaining as it needs to be made ahead of time, so that the jelly can set in the fridge.
We don't see any reason not to use non-alcoholic gin in the jelly. Alcohol does affect the setting qualities of gelatine, so in this case the jelly without alcohol may be very slightly firmer than the jelly made with alcohol. However, this should not cause a problem. For non-alcoholic gins, there are now many brands available and the flavour profiles can be quite different (as they can with regular gin), so we can't recommend a specific brand but suggest you choose the one that you yourself like the most.
