Our answer

Nigella's Chocolate Malteser Cake (from FEAST) is a sandwich cake with a chocolate malt flavour. In the recipe Nigella suggests malted milk powder and Horlicks is one of the best-known UK brands.

For the US it is possible to buy Horlicks, but you could also use another malted milk powder. There are many brands available, such as Ovaltine, Carnation, Soda Fountain and others. It is important to make sure that you use "original" or "classic" malted milk powder as some of them are chocolate malted milk mixtures, which would not be quite as good as the cake already contians cocoa. Also, although most of the US "original" malted milk powders are the type that you add to hot or cold milk, just check the packaging to make sure that it is not the "instant" type that you mix with boiling water.
