Asked by KRowan. Answered on 2nd February 2021

Full question

I don't have a dish big enough to fit a whole chicken. I want to try the Chicken In A Pot - can I use different cuts of meat instead?

Our answer

Nigella's Chicken In A Pot With Lemon And Orzo (from COOK, EAT, REPEAT) cooks a whole chicken in a large casserole dish (Dutch oven) and then cooks orzo pasta in the stock created by the chicken. It is a one-pot dish which needs very little active work.

If you don't have a pot big enough for the whole chicken then we note that in the Comments section for the recipe one Community Member has posted that they cut up the chicken instead of using it whole. The cooking time was shorter, at 50 minutes, and they used slightly less liquid, which we assume was due to the smaller pot. We would suggest also browning the chicken pieces in a frying pan before adding them to the pot. However, as we have not tried this method ourselves, we are unable to guarantee its success.
