Cookie Dough Pots

Asked by Labz3154. Answered on 20th April 2021

Full question

Hi, I have read through Nigella's recipe for Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Pots and it says to add ½ a tsp of "sea salt". Just wondering if I must add this ingredient, or will normal salt do?

Our answer

Nigella's Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Pots (from SIMPLY NIGELLA) are, as the recipe title suggests, gooey in the centre with a cookie-like crisp crust. Salt helps to bring out the flavour of the pots, as well as tempering the overall sweetness.

Salt type and usage is very much a personal thing and Nigella prefers fine sea salt, but regular table salt, or other fine free-flowing salt, would be just as good for the pots themselves. However, Nigella mentions in the introduction that she likes to sprinkle sea salt flakes on top just before serving and if you do want to add extra on top then it should be salt flakes and not fine salt, as the flakes add some crunchy texture as well as extra saline flavour.
