Full question
Hello, I love the Salted Chocolate Tart recipe, but wondered if there would be dairy free substitute for the cream and milk?
Our answer
Nigella's Salted Chocolate Tart (from SIMPLY NIGELLA) is a tart that has a ganache-type filling made with chocolate and cream. It should be possible to make a dairy-free version of the tart by using dairy-free alternatives to the milk and cream. Soy or rice milk and cream are probably the easiest to find alternatives.
However the non-dairy creams are usually equivalent to single, rather than double, cream so the tart filling may not be quite as rich. It may also be possible to use coconut milk and cream as an alternative, but these have a fairly pronounced coconut flavour which could come through in the finished tart. If required, the butter in the tart base can be replaced with a fairy-free spread. We would also mention that as we have not tried these alternatives we are unable to guarantee the results.
