Our answer

Nigella's Pecan-Plus Pie (from NIGELLA CHRISTMAS) is a variation on the Thanksgiving favourite of pecan pie. Rather than using pecans, Nigella uses a mixture of Brazils, pecans, almonds, hazelnuts and walnuts as these are reminiscent of a bowl of mixed nuts that often adorn British Christmas tables.

The nuts are raw, that is to say they are natural and not toasted or salted. The nuts will be baked in the pie, so if they are toasted in advance there is a risk that they could become a little over cooked and in that scenario nuts can become slightly bitter. Try to buy the freshest nuts possible as older nuts can also taste a little off if they have been stored incorrectly.
