Full question
Nigella’s recipes often call for English mustard. I always have dry on hand, but am not sure if the requirement is for dry or ready mixed? Thank you!
Our answer
Nigella uses English mustard in many recipes, such as Devilled Eggs, as it adds a spicy kick. Nigella also loves English mustard as a condiment, to serve with dishes such as My Mother's Praised Chicken.
English mustard is one of the hotter mustards and in Nigella's recipes, as in most recipes, if the ingredient list specifies just "mustard" then it is the ready-mixed mustard. If dry mustard is required then it is usually stated as "dry mustard". So if you have dry mustard you should mix it with water first, following the package instructions. However it is worth noting that freshly-made English mustard is usually more pungent than ready-made English mustard from a jar or tube, so you may want to add less of the freshly-made mustard and taste first, adding more mustard if required.
