Make Ahead Chilli Jam

Asked by gill392. Answered on 16th May 2020

Full question

The Chilli Jam sounds great and I have made a batch of this today. However, I'm unsure about whether I need to keep it for a month before using it (similar to my usual chutneys), or whether it can be eaten straight away. The "up to a month" has confused me! If it said at least a month, I would keep it. What have you done? Thanks.

Our answer

Nigella's Chilli Jam (from NIGELLA CHRISTMAS) is a spicy condiment that is particularly good with cheese or cold meats. The make ahead information assumed that the Chilli Jam would be given as a gift (as it was in the gift section chapter of the book) so suggests that it could be made up to one month ahead, then can be kept, unopened, by the recipient for up to one year.

The jam can be opened and eaten more quickly than this but we would suggest that you give it a day or two to make sure that it is completely cold and set. However, once the Chilli Jam has been opened it should be kept in the fridge and used within a month of opening.
