Full question
I have made this and the only Ovaltine I could find was the light (to which water should be added). Do I need to adjust the quantity of milk I add, or add water considering the Ovaltine Light contains milk powder?
Our answer
Nigella's Go Get 'Em Smoothie (from NIGELLA EXPRESS) is perfect for busy people as it can be consumed on the go for breakfast, as well as being a delicious smoothie for any time of the day. The smoothie is banana-mocha flavoured, with frozen bananas, milk, espresso powder and chocolate malted milk powder.
In the recipe, Nigella uses regular chocolate malted milk powder, which is usually added to milk. Since the recipe was written, "light" or "instant" versions of the powder have become more popular, where only hot water needs to be added as the chocolate malt contains milk powder. If this is the only option available to you then we would prefer to still use milk, but you could use either a skimmed (non-fat/fat-free) or semi-skimmed (reduced fat) milk as the milk powder in the chocolate malt is usually skimmed milk powder. Our feeling is that adding just water, instead of milk, could make the smoothie feel a little "thin", but it is very much a matter of personal taste.
