Full question
Hi, I would like to make a non-alcoholic tiramisu similar to the Irish Cream Tiramisu. How would I replace the liqueur in the recipe?
Our answer
Nigella's Irish Cream Tiramisu (from NIGELLA EXPRESS) gets its name and its flavouring from the Irish cream liqueur that is added to the mascarpone cream mixture. The liqueur is a reasonable quantity and also helps the texture of the tiramisu as it softens the mascarpone cream miture. If you do need to omit alcohol then we suspect that a mixture of 250ml double cream and 2 teaspoons vanilla extract would be the most workable alternative. However as we have not tried this combination we cannot guarantee the results.
It may be easier to use a different recipe with a lower level of alcohol to replace and we would suggest considering Nigella's Tiramisini. The coffee liqueur can be replaced with additional coffee and the marsala could be replaced with a teaspoon of vanilla extract or 2 tablespoons of orange juice. The Tiramisini recipe would need to be doubled to fit into a larger serving dish and in addition you may need a few extra savoiardi biscuits.
