Full question
Please can you tell me what the "husks" referred to in the One Pan Sage And Onion Chicken And Sausage Recipe are?
Our answer
Nigella's One Pan Sage And Onion Chicken And Sausage (from FEAST) is a traybake that is infused with the flavours of sage, lemon and mustard. The ingredients list mentions one whole lemon and the juice is added to the marinade. The "husks" that are mentioned are the two squeezed out halves of the lemon.
These husks are added to the marinade as some of the flavourful oils in the zest will be released into the marinade as you squidge the ingredients in the bag together. The husks are also added to the pan during cooking as they provide a little extra moisture in the pan. For this recipe we don't particularly recommend eating the husks, they should be discarded after cooking.
