Reheating Individual Portions Of Christmas Pudding

Asked by corbey. Answered on 11th November 2021

Full question

I have made the Ultimate Christmas Pudding and have steamed it for 8 hours. Can you tell me if I can slice the Christmas pudding into portion-sized pieces to reheat and can slices be reheated in the microwave?

Our answer

Nigella's Ultimate Christmas Pudding (from NIGELLA CHRISTMAS) can be reheated in a microwave as long as it has had an initial 8 hours of steaming. The 8 hours is needed to develop the colour and flavour of the pudding.

It is possible to reheat individual slices of pudding in a microwave, either leftovers or on the pudding's first outing. This would be particularly useful if you have a small number of people and a large pudding. Unmould the pudding and cut slices then put a slice on a microwaveable dish and cover with microwaveable wrap or a plastic dome, leaving a small gap or hole for steam to escape. Reheat on medium for 1-2 minutes, until hot all of the way through. Individual slices of pudding can be wrapped in food wrap, put in a resealable container and frozen for up to a month. Thaw slices overnight in the fridge and reheat as above.
