Sausages for Cocktail Sausages

Full question
Hello, I don't live in UK and I don't know what kind of sausages are used in cocktail sausages recipe, from Express. Are they like frankfurters? Thanks a lot!
Our answer
The sausages used by Nigella in her cocktail sausage recipes are mini sausages, which are known as "cocktail sausages" in the UK. They are very popular in the UK, but unfortunately they are more difficult to find elsewhere. They are filled with a traditional sausagemeat filling and they are not frankfurter sausages.
Alternatives will really depend on where you live. In the US you can use skinny breakfast links as an alternative. You can cook the links whole, or if you want to make the cocktail size sausages then you can carefully pinch the centre of the sausage to divide the filling into two parts and then twist the casing in the centre to seal. Cut the two cocktail sausages apart at the twist. In other countries you need to look for the slimmest sausages available, sometimes called chipolata sausages, and either cook them whole or make them into cocktail size sausages as described above.
