Silver Dollar American Pancakes

Full question
What is the size of the silver-dollar-sized pancakes referred to in Nigella's American Pancake recipe?
Our answer
Nigella's American Breakfast Pancake recipe (from Domestic Goddess and on the Nigella website) makes enough batter for about 16 silver dollar-sized pancakes. A sliver dollar pancake is usually 5cm to 7 cm (2 to 3 inches) in diameter and is so named as it is roughly the same size as the pre-1979 silver dollar coin. To get this size of pancake you would use a generous tablespoon of pancake batter.
In the UK this size of pancake would be considered to be a Scotch pancake or drop scone. The US also has a larger size of pancake called a flapjack (or griddlecake or hotcake). These are usually about 10cm (4 inches) in diameter and are often served in stacks.
