Sour Cream for Chocolate Guinness Cake

Asked by Ingridjones. Answered on 16th June 2014

Full question

I live in South Africa and we don't have sour cream in 142ml tubs. What would be the gram conversion? Thanks Ingrid

Our answer

Nigella's Chocolate Guinness Cake (from Feast and on the Nigella website) uses sour cream and for convenience Nigella has used a 142ml carton as this is a standard size in the UK and equates to an old-fashioned UK 1/4 pint.

Fortunately many dairy items, such as yogurt and sour cream, have weights and volumes that are very close to each other so for the cake you can weigh out 142g of sour cream, or for convenience this could be rounded up to 150g. For those who use cup measures then the measurement is 2/3 cup.
