Hi, I was wondering how to make sticky toffee sauce?
Our answer
Sticky toffee sauce is essentially a toffee/butterscotch (soft caramel) sauce which accompanies the popular British dessert called sticky toffee pudding. The pudding itself is a sponge cake, usually containing softened dates, which is served with a sauce made from golden syrup, sugar, butter and sometimes cream. Often the sauce is made separately, a little is poured over the cake towards the end of the cooking time and the rest is poured over the cake when it is served. Nigella has an easy version of sticky toffee pudding in Nigella Bites (p216).
The sauce on its own can be served with other items, such as ice cream, some fruits and vanilla sponge cake. Nigella has a Quick Stovetop Butterscotch Sauce in How To Eat (p304) or you can use the butterscotch sauce from the Apple Cheesecake recipe in Feast (p207) or the topping from Girdlebuster Pie in Christmas (p87).
